I have found an amazing talent, and I like her voice and her commitment to remember the victims of crime in telling the story. I had several auditions that sounded like they were reading a dry novel for 17th century England, or in this scary, spooky voice. This talent puts character in the characters and drama where drama belongs, without making the people cardboard cutouts or taking advantage of the situation.
I have never actually listened to a Book on Tape but have friends who enjoy them while traveling. I would love to narrate my own, but I would need a soundproof booth and hours of time. Oh and expensive recording equipment. And I can see it: just when I get to an important part of the story, Diesel, our bulldog, starts barking his "smoker's bark" (at nothing, as usual) and the listener would say, "how does that fit into the story?" Or he would do what he is doing now, snoring loudly at my feet, so that it would sound like a constant thunderstorm.
Will keep you posted on the progress.
